X-men...X-women...or X-girls.

Here's a painting of Hope Summers and Transonic from the X-men comics. I tried some new stuff like blending Hope into the background and bluring up her eye lashes. Her eyes are glowing from the Phoenix force but I tried to make it resemble Cable's eye a bit.

Was a request from someone on the net, and I thought it was good practice.

Long time no post, here are some sketches.

A hectic, unpredictable, insane start to 2012. Just started my job as a Junior Game Designer, picked up a couple leads to possible freelance jobs. All these things took up chunks of my time...but most of all....

My cousin, Samuel So passed away in the morning of New Years 2012. He was ran over by a car while crossing the street at 5 in the morning. He was 3 years younger than I am, a brilliant kid with an incredibly...almost annoying...optimistic mindset. He was a thorn and an inspiration at the same time. No body could ignore him when he was in the room, and I sometimes get into arguments with him because of how different we see the world. After we lost him, the family grew closer, and I realized that I have responsibilities not just to myself but to Sam and his family as well.

I miss you Sam, and I didn't get the chance to say it but I do love you. You gave me something through this, and I'll keep on trucking. Watch me closely.

Anyway, back to art. I did a couple of sketches for two different clients, and I'm also working on a new series of paintings with a superhero theme (and the inhuman comic). But here's the stuff!

I studied a bit of Phil Noto's art style and really enjoyed how he drew noses. So I tried to incorporate it into my own style.

Inhuman Comic

I had to put a hiatus on my self portraits because I've been working on a comic book cover for Matt Garvey. The comic is titled "Inhuman", it is an anthology of horror stories illustrating the uglier aspects of human nature. I'm working on the fourth chapter in the book currently titled "Desert Murder".

I'll start up portraits again.

Portrait 12

Another line one, but this time no values no nothing...JUST LINES.

Portrait 11

Wow only 4 more to go to the 30 day halfway point.

Anyway I decided to do another line one because I felt like it really helps train me to capture the most important aspects of a face. I'm not sure how accurate this one is compared to the last one, but I definitely feel like it helps so we'll probably see more of these.
I have a long tongue...

Portrait 10

I tried to do something a little bit different this time. I wanted to capture the features of my face with as little rendering as possible, and mostly with just lines. However I realized a lot of my features are more subtle and with only lines it would only look TOO much, so I decided to add a tiny teeny bit of rending around the eyes and lips.

Not as bad as I thought because I always thought only using lines to capture a face, and having it look non-cartoony is a great challenge. I'll try this again some time. Harder, but takes a lot less time to do.
