Portrait 12

Another line one, but this time no values no nothing...JUST LINES.

Portrait 11

Wow only 4 more to go to the 30 day halfway point.

Anyway I decided to do another line one because I felt like it really helps train me to capture the most important aspects of a face. I'm not sure how accurate this one is compared to the last one, but I definitely feel like it helps so we'll probably see more of these.
I have a long tongue...

Portrait 10

I tried to do something a little bit different this time. I wanted to capture the features of my face with as little rendering as possible, and mostly with just lines. However I realized a lot of my features are more subtle and with only lines it would only look TOO much, so I decided to add a tiny teeny bit of rending around the eyes and lips.

Not as bad as I thought because I always thought only using lines to capture a face, and having it look non-cartoony is a great challenge. I'll try this again some time. Harder, but takes a lot less time to do.

Portrait 9

I had a hard time with this one and I feel like it is less successful than the last 3 in terms of accuracy to my face. It's a perspective that I have trouble with so I used a photograph. I'll have to try it again sometime.

There wasn't really a feather...

Portrait 7

Took a while with this one. Looks like Hulk.

Tried to blend some faster and softer.

Portrait 6

Tried to do the hair better this time.
Correct the values so that the nose is a lot lighter and the edge of the forehead.

Tried to make myself look scared here, or disgusted. The next piece will focus more on incorporating soft and hard edges (which I kind of tried here).

Portrait 4

Busy day and thought I wouldn't be able to make it! Side profile this time, which I actually think is a lot easier to draw than front faces since you don't have to worry about symmetry.

Same old deal, tried to be more economical, and focus more on the lips and eyes. I think I got better at the lips this time around...at least I think so? The weird glasses shadow duplicate thing is...I found out recently...because I have two lights on my desk.

PS: I got a slanted forehead!

Self Portrait Day 3

Third self portrait, I had a tough time getting the lips and eyes to work. In the end a friend of mine said I looked way too good here to be true, with friends like him who needs enemies? I tried to be a lot more economical with my strokes this time around. Let's hope I get a more accurate version of myself next time.

PS: This is completely unrelated to art but I'd like to give a shout out to this new cereal I found called Krave. Those suckers have a captain crunch like shell with hazelnut chocolate paste inside. It freaking tastes like ferrero roche! If you find them close by, grab it and give it a try!

Day 2 of Self Portrait

Another painting of my hideous face. Still got ways to go.

Got to be more economical with my strokes, and highlight my distinct features. 28 more to go!

A Rejected Cover And A Self Portrait

I've been working on the cover for a horror book anthology titled"Inhuman" by Matt Garvey. I sketched a couple of different covers, and the one below is inspired by one of the chapters in "Inhuman". The cover was ultimately rejected for another one (which I am working on now and will post it up here once I'm done).

The next one is the beginning of a 30 day challenge where I'm suppose to draw something of a different topic each day for 30 days. However a few of my friends have pointed out that I'm still missing something from portrait paintings so we decided to adjust the challenge to 30 day portrait challenge to hone my skills.

This will be the first of many ugly mugshots.
